Bhubaneswar: Kicking off Ollywood’s much-anticipated Rath Yatra release season, two content-driven Odia films—Guruji Namaskar and Linebala—were released in cinema halls across Odisha on Friday (July 10), offering audiences inspiring stories rooted in everyday heroes and social realities.
Both films move away from conventional commercial entertainers, focusing instead on the lives of individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed, while setting the stage for the bigger Rath Yatra releases scheduled next week.
Directed by Jitendriya Pradhan, Guruji Namaskar tells the emotional story of a dedicated rural school teacher who goes beyond the classroom to protect the future, dignity and aspirations of his students. Carrying the tagline, “A classroom. A pair of worn-out shoes. A teacher who refused to give up,” the film is a tribute to educators and their transformative role in society.
The film stars Aman and Shivanshi in lead role. The film had already earned recognition at several national film festivals between 2024 and 2026 before its theatrical release. Ahead of its release, the makers also honoured more than 200 teachers across Odisha through a statewide felicitation campaign, reinforcing the film’s central message of respect for educators.
Joining it in theatres is Linebala, directed by Niranjan Behera, which shines a spotlight on electricity line workers—the unsung heroes who risk their lives to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Inspired by a true story, the film follows the struggles, sacrifices and resilience of frontline power employees who often face dangerous working conditions and public criticism while carrying out their duties.
Starring Sambeet Acharya and Swapna Priyadarsini, Linebala was shot extensively during scheduled power shutdowns to ensure authenticity, with actors performing scenes atop electricity poles. The makers say the film aims to create greater appreciation for the line workers whose efforts keep homes and businesses running every day.
The release of Guruji Namaskar and Linebala marks the beginning of one of the busiest weeks for Ollywood. The momentum is expected to continue on July 16, when Rath Yatra will bring two major new releases—The Millet Diary and Ganda Bhairav—to theatres, while the successful family entertainer Bara Badhu returns with a special festive re-release.
With socially relevant cinema opening the festive season and big-ticket releases lined up for Rath Yatra, July promises to be one of the most significant months for the Odia film industry this year.
