Sanjay Mishra Arrives in Bhubaneswar for First Odia Film, Says Learning Odia Will Be a Challenge
Bhubaneswar: National Award-winning actor Sanjay Mishra arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to begin work on his first Odia film, describing the project as an exciting new experience and admitting that learning the Odia language would be a challenge for him.
Speaking after his arrival, Mishra said, “This is my first Odia movie. Learning Odia will be tough for me.” Recalling his experience of working in a Bengali film, he said, “I had done a Bangla movie before and that too was a challenge for me.”
Mishra will stay in Odisha until August 26 for the shooting of the yet-to-be-titled film, produced by Auroshree Films and directed by Mrutyunjay Sahoo. The film has already gone on floors and is slated for a Durga Puja 2026 release.
Asked whether he would visit Puri during his stay, Mishra said he had visited the holy city before. “I have visited Puri before,” he said.
The film features Mishra alongside Maheswata Ray, Akash, Bhoomika, Sanoj, Pragya, Sushant and Krishna Kar. It is being presented as a romantic entertainer inspired by the emotions and atmosphere of the 1980s.
Promoted with the tagline “80s Romance is Back,” the film promises a mix of romance, drama and nostalgia, with the makers seeking to recreate the charm of the era for contemporary audiences.
Mishra, an alumnus of the National School of Drama, is known for his versatile performances in Hindi cinema. His notable films include Ankhon Dekhi, Masaan, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Kadvi Hawa, Kaamyaab and Vadh. He has received several honours for his performances, including Filmfare Critics’ Awards, and was recognised with the Best Supporting Actor award at the 72nd National Film Awards.
His entry into Odia cinema marks another regional-language challenge for the actor, who has previously explored Bengali cinema. With the shooting underway and Mishra in Bhubaneswar until August 26, the project is expected to generate considerable interest ahead of its festive-season release.
