Mantra Muugdha Creates History With Blockbuster Success Despite No Big Star Cast
Bhubaneswar: Defying the conventional formula of festival releases and superstar-driven box office success, Odia film “Mantra Muugdha” has emerged as a surprise blockbuster, scripting a new chapter in the Odia film industry.
Released on May 1, the film has crossed the ₹1 crore collection mark within just one week, despite featuring no major stars and arriving outside the festive release window. The movie is currently running in more than 70 theatres across India, including 52 theatres in Odisha.
Traditionally, Odia audiences wait for big-budget films during Raja or Dussehra festivals, but this time viewers have wholeheartedly embraced “Mantra Mugdha”. The film’s unique storytelling by National Award-winning director Anupam Patnaik, blending horror, comedy, and music, has struck a chord with audiences.
The performances of young actors Sanoj, Manmay, Sarthak, Bhoomika, Suryamayee, and Dipanwit have received widespread appreciation from moviegoers. Another major highlight of the film is its music, with five different music directors contributing to five songs, offering audiences a refreshing cinematic experience.
The film’s technical excellence has also drawn praise. High-quality cinematography by Deepak Kumar, coupled with modern VFX and sharp editing, has given the movie a national-level cinematic appeal. In particular, the song sequence “Bhuta Gauchhi Geeta” and the energetic dance performances featuring two lead pairs have become hugely popular among young viewers.
Produced under the banner of Amiya Patnaik Productions, the film has been jointly produced by Barsha Patnaik and Anupam Patnaik. Gopal Chandra Ghadai has served as the executive producer, while media planner Pranaya Jethi is handling the film’s promotions and publicity.
Interestingly, industry observers say the biggest strength of “Mantra Muugdha” has been strong word-of-mouth publicity, with audiences themselves actively promoting the film far more than traditional marketing campaigns.
