Bhubaneswar: The official teaser of the upcoming Odia film KANGULA – Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha has been released on the Babu Bhai Production YouTube channel, giving audiences their first glimpse of a spiritually intense story rooted in Odisha’s rich cultural traditions.
The film is slated to release in cinemas worldwide on April 24, 2026.
The teaser highlights a powerful theme centered on devotion and faith, with the message: “When devotion becomes power… when faith turns into fire… a divine force awakens.” The visuals suggest a gripping narrative inspired by the sacred Danda Nacha tradition of Odisha, blending spirituality, mystery and emotional drama.
Inspired by true events, Kangula is described by the makers as “a divine tale from the soil of Odisha.” The story revolves around deep spiritual belief and devotion to Maa Kali, whose fierce energy forms the central theme of the film.
Rooted in Odisha’s Ancient Tradition
The narrative draws inspiration from Danda Nacha, an ancient ritualistic festival observed mainly across southern Odisha, especially in Ganjam district, Dhenkanal district, and Angul district. Celebrated during the month of Chaitra, the festival involves devotees known as Danduas or Bhoktas who undertake rigorous rituals and prayers dedicated to Goddess Kali and Lord Shiva over a period of 13, 18, or 21 days.
By bringing this powerful spiritual tradition to the big screen, the film aims to highlight the depth of Odisha’s cultural heritage and the intense devotion associated with the ritual.
The film features Sambeet Acharya in the lead role as Rajan, a fearless young man from Kangula village whose character reflects raw energy and unwavering faith. The cast also includes Suryamayee Mohapatra as Purnima, Abhishek Giri as Kuna, and veteran actor Sritam Das as Raghu, along with other supporting actors.
The film is directed by Aswin Tripathy, known for his earlier works Delivery Boy 2 and Motorcycle. Kangula – Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha is produced by Suvendra Kumar Malla (Litu) and Sambeet Acharya.
With its teaser now released, the film promises a unique cinematic journey where devotion, sacrifice and spiritual belief come together in a dramatic celebration of Odisha’s living traditions. The makers describe it as more than just a film, calling it “tradition roaring on the big screen.”
Audiences will witness the divine intensity of Kangula – Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha when it arrives in cinemas on April 24, 2026.
