Odia movie Pratikshya, Daman, selected for the New York Indian Film Festival

Bhubaneswar: In a proud moment for Odia movies Pratikshya and Daman got selected for New York Indian Film Festival 2024.

Pratikshya which released last year in cinema halls had done well and had completed more than 50 days in cinema halls. The film won national award last year.

The movie Daman tracks Dr Siddharth Mohanty’s journey to eradicate malaria, released on November 4, 2022.

Inspired by a short story by writer Gourahari Das, Pratikshya is the story of Sanjay, a boy from a middle-class family who is on the lookout for a government job, a few months before his father retires.

His father, Bipin, is insistent that he find a job, as the family has debts, and Bipin is also diagnosed with a terminal illness. Sanjay learns about the government’s scheme of compassionate appointment where a family member gets the job of the deceased government employee.

A frustrated Sanjay waits for his father’s death only to realise his disturbing mind. It is a film about family, especially about the complex relationships fathers and sons have.

DAMaN is an acronym for Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakarana (malaria control in inaccessible areas), which has benefited around 8,000 villages in Odisha. “

Directed by young duo of Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka, DAMaN also stars Dipanwit Das Mohapatra who played lead in Pratikshya movie and members of local tribal communities of Malkangiri & Koraput who have acted in a film for the first time.
