Odia film DAMaN, which was released in November last year, has achieved yet another feat by cracking the top 10 films on IMDB. The film, which was co-directed by Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka, is currently ranked ninth, leaving behind international movies such as Pulp Fiction (11), Inception (15), Fight Club (17), and many others.
Prior to that, it received a 9.7 out of 10 rating on IMDB, making it the highest-rated Indian film. After being dubbed in Hindi, the film also had a pan-India release.
The Deependra Samal-produced movie, which features Babushaan and Dipanwit in key roles, depicts a doctor’s tenacious battle against superstitions and endeavour to educate tribal people on malaria.
The Odisha government declared the movie tax-free following its release. Applauding the plot, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “This will encourage the employees of the health department and other government employees posted in the remote areas to excel in selfless service.”
The film has been praised by critics and audiences alike for its realistic portrayal of the challenges faced by doctors in remote areas. It has also been credited with raising awareness about malaria and other health issues in tribal communities.
