Bhubaneswar: With the joint support of the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department and the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, a special Odia film screening program is being organized at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. The event, running from June 12 to June 19, celebrates the rich cinematic heritage of Odisha by showcasing classic Odia films.
On the third evening of the event, the timeless Odia film Chilika Teerey was screened to an enthusiastic audience. Directed by Biplab Ray Chaudhuri, the 1977 classic captivated viewers with its powerful narrative and poignant portrayal of the lives of oppressed, illiterate fisherfolk who rise against exploitation by unscrupulous businessmen.
The film features a stellar cast including Bijay Mohanty, Tandra Roy, Netrananda Misra, Hemanta Das, Sujata Anand, Runu Bose, Akshaya Mohanty Kashyap, Preeti Patnaik, Manju Pradhan, and Radharani. The screening was met with great appreciation, with many audience members applauding the film’s social message and artistic merit.
Earlier in the program, other celebrated Odia films such as Dharitri and Bhakta Salabega were also screened, drawing strong responses from cinema lovers and cultural enthusiasts.
