Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Veteran Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty passed away today while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
The celebrated actor, who was suffering from liver cirrhosis, had been airlifted from Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care after initially receiving treatment at KIMS Super Specialty Hospital. His deteriorating health had deeply worried his fans and well-wishers, who had been praying for his recovery.
The passing of veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty is a significant loss to the Odia film industry. Known for his versatile performances and immense contribution to Odia cinema, Mohanty’s career spanned over decades, with more than 110 films to his name. His acting prowess, which ranged from romantic leads to intense dramatic roles, won him the admiration of audiences and critics alike.
Winning the state government’s Best Actor Award three times (1982–1984) and receiving the prestigious Jayadeva Award in 1999 were testaments to his outstanding talent. His work in iconic films like *Astaraga* (1982), *Palatak* (1985), and *Ja Devi Sarbavutesu* (1988) solidified his place as one of the most beloved figures in Odia cinema.
His legacy as a pioneer of the industry will be cherished, and he will always be remembered for his contribution to the cultural and artistic heritage of Odisha.
