Suryamayee’s First Look as Purnima from Kangula Unveiled

Bhubaneswar: The makers of the upcoming Odia film KANGULA – Maa Kali Ra DANDANACHA have unveiled the first look of actress Suryamayee as Purnima, generating fresh excitement among fans.

Introduced as the educated daughter of Kangula village, Purnima is portrayed as a young woman on a journey to rediscover the spiritual soul of Danda Nacha. The character promises emotional depth and cultural rootedness, adding a strong narrative layer to the film.

Suryamayee, known for her impactful performances in films like Dalcheeni, Rangashoor, and Bara Badhu, will once again be seen in a powerful and performance-driven role.

Earlier, the first look of Sambeet Acharya as ‘Rajan’ was also revealed. His character is described as “the most crazy boy of Kangula village — fear doesn’t live where he walks.” Rajan appears fierce, fearless and intense, embodying a raw rural persona that hints at a gripping, emotionally charged storyline inspired by true events.

The film is directed by Aswin Tripathy, known for Delivery Boy 2 and Motorcycle. It is produced by Sambeet Acharya and Suvendra Kumar Malla (Litu) and is slated for release in 2026.

Rooted in Danda Naacha Tradition
Kangula draws inspiration from Danda Naacha (Danda Jatra/Danda Yatra), one of Odisha’s most significant ritualistic festivals observed during the month of Chaitra.

Celebrated mainly in Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Angul districts, the festival involves devotees — known as Danduas or Bhoktas — undertaking rigorous 13-, 18- or 21-day rituals dedicated to Goddess Kali and Lord Shiva.

By centering its narrative on this ancient spiritual tradition, the film promises a compelling blend of devotion, intensity, and emotional drama.

The makers have announced that more details regarding the cast, music will be revealed soon. With the unveiling of Purnima and Rajan’s looks, anticipation surrounding Kangula continues to grow.
