Suryamayee Mohapatra as Nandini in ‘Dandakali’: Actress Takes on Yet Another Powerful Role

Bhubaneswar: Actress Suryamayee Mohapatra is set to return to the big screen in a striking new avatar as Nandini in the upcoming Odia film Dandakali, adding another challenging character to what is turning out to be a significant year in her career.

Presented by Rajashree Cine Crafts, Dandakali stars Suryamayee as Nandini, described as “The Flame of Justice.” The film is directed by Sudhanshu Mohan Sahoo and produced by Rajasri Ghosh, with Sukant Kumar Sahoo serving as executive producer.

The makers have announced that Dandakali will hit cinemas during Ganesh Puja, raising anticipation among Odia moviegoers. The first look featuring Suryamayee as Nandini has already drawn attention for its intense presentation and promises another distinctly different shade of the actress.

The film comes at a time when Suryamayee is enjoying a strong run in Odia cinema. Known for her ability to move comfortably between emotional, dramatic and intense characters, she has been taking up increasingly diverse roles.

Her recent and upcoming lineup reflects that range. She has appeared in films including Bara Badhu, Kangula and Mantra Muugdha, while Dandakali, Kankana and Raavan are among her upcoming projects. The variety in these films has allowed the actress to explore characters with contrasting personalities and emotional journeys.

Suryamayee’s rise has also been backed by critical recognition. She has earlier won the Odisha State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dalcheeni and has now added another prestigious State Film Award for her performance in Delivery Boy. Her film Ashram has also received the Best Film honour at the State Film Awards.

Over the years, she has built a reputation for choosing varied roles in films such as Dalcheeni, Rangashoor, Bara Badhu, Karma and Mantra Muugdha.

With Dandakali presenting her as Nandini, a character positioned as the “flame of justice”, audiences can expect yet another new dimension from the actress.
