Odia Music Maestro Abhijit Majumdar Battles for Life in Cuttack ICU; Film Industry Rallies in Support

Cuttack: Eminent Odia music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar, known as the melody king of Ollywood, has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Cuttack’s CDA area after his health deteriorated critically due to liver-related complications and severe electrolyte imbalance.

The health scare began on August 27 when Majumdar, who had been performing at multiple Ganesh Puja musical events, complained of uneasiness and fatigue. Doctors later revealed that an alarming drop in sodium and potassium levels worsened his already fragile liver condition, pushing him into a critical state.

Despite initial treatment at a private facility in Cuttack, his condition failed to improve, forcing doctors to shift him to a well-equipped CDA-area hospital on Sunday, where he was placed under emergency care and moved to the ICU for intensive monitoring.

Sources close to the medical team confirmed that Majumdar is gradually responding to treatment, though he remains under strict observation. He is reportedly unable to eat or drink on his own, and multiple tests are underway to stabilize his condition.

The news has sent shockwaves across the Odia film and music industry. Leading personalities, including Pradyumna Lenka and actor-producer Sritam Das, visited the hospital to check on him. Speaking to the media, Sritam Das said:
“He was responding earlier but could not eat or drink on his own. Doctors are trying their best, and we are all praying for his speedy recovery.”

Abhijit Majumdar is a household name in Odisha, having composed over 700 songs for blockbuster Odia films like Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan, and Sriman Surdas. His contribution to both Odia film music and Sambalpuri albums has made him one of the most influential music directors of his generation.
