Audiences of Bhubaneswar will witness a retelling of the poignant story of Devdas, an epic which was made many times in Big screen, on stage in Odia language on April 27 at Rabindra Mandap.
In the musical play directed by Dev Meher and written by Devdas Chottray, the role of Devdas played by Rano Joy, Sheetal Patra as Paro and BM Baisali as Chandramukhi.
For Baisali acting comes naturally as according to her as a trained Odissi Dancer her fav genre is always “Abhinaya”.
Baisali is one of the new young talented actress who has impressed all with her variety of acting roles in short span of time. She has lot of projects in her kitty including Kedaar Gauri, Jajabara, “Dear Purusha”, Chadapatra among others.
Talking about her role in Musical Play Devdas Baishali said that it’s a very exhilarating experience. Devdas is basically a love story of Devdas and Paro and Chandramukhi role is of one sided love towards Devdas.
About the role which has been played by many legendary actress Madhuri in screen, she said It’s like a dream come true for me playing the character of Chandramukhi because Madhuri is also my inspiration. The role is very different from other characters because she has to switch and do transitions quickly and has to do both acting dance.
She said portraying the role in stage is different because there will not be any cut and have to play character without break.
Baisali in a short apan of time has created lot of attention with her work. She has been part of several music albums and has done many web series including Capital Talkies, Hindi movie Zwigato directed by Nandita Das And starring Kapil Sharma
She is ready for her new movie Phalguni Chaitra which will be releasing on May 12. Talking about the movie she said the movie is a true Odia movie with special focus on showcasing Odia culture and Odia household.
About Zwigato, Baisali says that it was a lovely experience working with Nandita das and Kapil Sharma
Baisali also talks about her experience of working with several women directors like Nandita Das, Peenaki Singh, Arpita Patnaik. She said that as an actress it feels comfortable but also you also need to have camaraderie with the one calling the shots!
Born in Bhubaneswar, Baisali had studied in Rama Devi university and then studies mass communication in Delhi. After that she assisted director Amit Sharma of Badhaai ho fame and had done some tv commercials before returning to Odisha in 2021and started her journey here.
