Nandita Das Meets Odisha Deputy CM and Culture Minister
During the meeting, Das presented several proposals focused on globally promoting Odisha’s art and culture and attracting more tourists to the state
Bhubaneswar: Noted actress and filmmaker Nandita Das met with Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Also present during the meeting was Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister of Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture.
During the meeting, Das presented several proposals focused on globally promoting Odisha’s art and culture and attracting more tourists to the state. She sought support from the Odisha government, especially from the Deputy CM and Culture Minister, to take these initiatives forward.
Deputy CM Singh Deo assured that the state government would provide the necessary support after departmental discussions. Culture Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj welcomed the proposals, calling them commendable steps toward cultural promotion and outreach.

Nandita Das (born 7 November 1969) is an acclaimed Indian actress and filmmaker. She has acted in over 40 feature films in ten languages, including Fire (1996), Earth (1998), Bawandar (2000), Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), Azhagi (2002), Kamli (2006), and Before The Rains (2007).
Her directorial debut Firaaq (2008) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won more than 20 awards across 50+ festivals. Her second directorial project, Manto (2018), was also widely acclaimed.
Born in Mumbai and raised in Delhi in an Odia family, she is the daughter of renowned artist Jatin Das and writer Varsha Das.
