Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited Odia feature film “Murabi” was released today in cinema halls across the state, marking the big-screen debut of Mentis Films.

The film, which had already generated buzz following the release of its trailer, opened to audiences with expectations of a strong emotional and family-centric narrative.
Centered on the concept of a “Murabi” — the head of a family who holds members together while instilling discipline and values — the film explores generational ideologies and interpersonal relationships. It presents a compelling contrast between two family patriarchs: one who believes in strict rules and authority, and another who nurtures unity through love, empathy, and freedom. Through their conflicting approaches, the story highlights the evolving nature of family bonds and values in contemporary society.
Earlier, a special premiere of the film was organised at the Shreya Swati Cinema Hall, where the cast and crew of “Murabi” were present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from fans and film enthusiasts, adding to the excitement ahead of the statewide release.
Produced by National Award winners Bishal Mourya and Debiprasad Lenka, “Murabi” is the first feature film under the Mentis Films banner. Sumanta Bairagi and Agnimitra Behera have served as co-producers.
The film is jointly directed by Pinaki Singh and Shishir Kumar Sahu, while the screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics have been penned by P. Santosh. Music for the film has been composed by Agnimitra Behera.
Featuring a talented ensemble cast including Kuna Tripathy, Jayaprakash Das, Bijayini Mishra, Ankita Mahanti, B.M. Vaishali, Udit Guru, and Prasenjit, the film showcases strong performances rooted in realism and emotional depth.
Earlier, the official trailer of “Murabi” was launched at the Biju Pattnaik Film and Television Institute of Odisha in the presence of state Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, where it received positive responses from viewers.
With its relatable storyline and focus on family values, “Murabi” is expected to resonate with audiences across Odisha and emerge as a noteworthy addition to the regional film landscape.
