Bhubaneswar: The makers of Mehermunda have unveiled the official trailer of the much-anticipated Odia film, offering a stirring glimpse into a story woven with emotion, struggle, and cultural pride. Slated for a May 15 release across Odisha, the film is already generating buzz for its socially rooted narrative and impactful storytelling.

“Every thread tells a story. Every weave carries the soul of a community”—the trailer opens with this evocative line, setting the tone for a cinematic journey that pays tribute to the unsung heroes of Odisha’s handloom sector. The visuals capture the raw realities of weaving communities, where tradition and survival go hand in hand, and heritage often battles economic hardship.

At its core, Mehermunda narrates a gripping tale of resilience, focusing on artisans who create beauty through their craft but struggle to sustain their own lives. The film blends emotion with realism, highlighting both the pride and pain of handloom families.

The movie features compelling performances by Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, Rakesh Kumar Padhi, Susanta Dasmohapatra, and Arlin Ankita, who bring depth and authenticity to the narrative.

Directed by Nikunj Hota and produced by Rakesh Kumar Padhi, the film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues have been crafted by Suraj Mohapatra and Nikunj Hota. The project aims to spotlight the emotional and economic realities of Odisha’s weaving communities while celebrating their artistic legacy.

Mehermunda has been positioned as a socially driven film since its first look release, with its narrative centered on the age-old handloom traditions of Odisha. Lead actor Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, last seen in Rangashoor, takes on a powerful role in the film, while Arlin Ankita continues her promising run after Sanatani.

With the trailer striking an emotional chord and highlighting a rarely explored subject in mainstream Odia cinema, Mehermunda is expected to resonate strongly with audiences when it hits theatres this May.
