Bhubaneswar: The makers of acclaimed Odia films Daman and Parab — JP Motion Pictures — have stepped into the multiplex business, announcing their foray with the bhoomi puja of JP Cinemas, a new-age multiplex in Dhenkanal district.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of producer Deependra Samal and popular actor Babushaan Mohanty as special guests. Speaking on the occasion, the JP Motion Pictures team said, “JP Cinemas is designed not just as a theatre but as an experience — a place to celebrate the stories, people, and culture of Odisha. Odisha deserves its own multiplex revolution, and we are here to make that dream a reality.”

Actor Babushaan Mohanty congratulated the team for bringing a much-needed facility to the region, while producer Deependra Samal expressed confidence that JP Cinemas would become a hub for both entertainment and community engagement.

Film enthusiasts and locals have welcomed the initiative, pointing out that Dhenkanal district currently has no functioning cinema hall. Many also urged the team to expand into eastern Odisha districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Puri, and Mayurbhanj, which once had thriving cinema culture but now struggle with limited facilities.

With JP Cinemas, JP Motion Pictures aims to revive the theatre-going culture in Odisha, positioning the project as “For the People. By the People. Of the People of Odisha.”
