Bhubaneswar: The Japanese Film Festival, titled Japan Talkies, began at KIIT Deemed to be University, marking its second edition at the institution.
The festival is being organized by KIIT in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, the Federation of Film Societies of India, and the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata. The three-day event will run until August 24.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Ishikawa Yoshihisa, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata; Himanshu Acharya, Head of Mitsubishi Corporation India (Kolkata Branch); Prof. Sharanjit Singh, Vice Chancellor of KIIT DU; Prof. Debashish Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chancellor of KISS DU; Debraj Pradhan, Director General of IRO, KIIT; and Himanshu Khatua, Director General of the School of Film and Mass Media Communications.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ishikawa Yoshihisa highlighted that hosting the Japanese Film Festival at KIIT for the second time will strengthen cultural ties between India and Japan. He expressed hope that this partnership will continue in the future and extended his gratitude to Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, for his support in promoting Japanese culture through cinema.
The festival opened with the screening of ‘Father of the Milky Way Railroad’. Other films lined up include ‘Princess Arete’ and ‘Lady Kaga’ on August 23, and ‘Ride Your Wave’ along with ‘The Zen Diary’ on August 24.
