‘Ganda Bhairav’ Released Across Odisha on Rath Yatra; Literary Adaptation Celebrates Faith and Odia Identity

Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited Odia film “Ganda Bhairav” was released across Odisha on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra. Presented by RR Events and produced by Ramesh Barik, the film is rooted in the glory of Lord Jagannath, devotion, and Odia cultural identity.

Based on a novel by noted Odia writer Shankar Tripathy, Ganda Bhairava narrates the inspiring story of an Abadha carrier (Mahaprasad porter) of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. The film explores his struggles, sacrifices, unwavering faith, love, and resilience, highlighting the spiritual and cultural ethos associated with Lord Jagannath.

The film stars Devasis Patra, Sivani Sangita, Ananya Mishra, K.K. Choudhury, Bikash Das, Soma Bhowmik, Prithwiraj, Nitya Nana, Santu Nije, and Shambhu Khuntia in key roles.

Produced under the RR Events & Cine Production banner, the film is directed by Sudhanshu Mohan Sahu, with Ramesh Barik serving as producer. The music has been composed by Gaurav Anand, while the songs have been sung by Human Sagar, Satyajit, Lipsa Mahapatra, and Rupak.

According to the makers, the film received an encouraging response from audiences on its opening day, with viewers appreciating its blend of devotion, emotion, and Odia culture. Producer Ramesh Barik expressed confidence that the film’s unique combination of spirituality and cultural values would resonate with audiences.

Speaking on the occasion, the filmmakers also stressed the importance of adapting Odia literary works for the big screen. They said Odisha has no shortage of talented writers, directors, and actors, and that bringing original Odia stories and novels to cinema can help revive the state’s film industry.
The makers believe that a renewed focus on authentic literary adaptations and original storytelling can reconnect audiences with Odia cinema and help restore its past glory.
