Bhubaneswar: Actor Sabyasachi Mishra is set to appear in his upcoming film Randi Pua Ananta, directed by Sabyasachi Mohapatra and based on a story by the renowned Odia writer, Utkala Byasa Kabi Fakir Mohan Senapati.
Speaking about the role at a special event titled Cinema on Literature, Mishra revealed that he underwent a dramatic physical transformation, gaining over 105 kg for the character.
“I normally weigh around 75 kg, but for this role, I had to gain more than 105 kg, as the character demanded it,” Mishra said. “It was incredibly challenging, but I’m grateful to Mohapatra sir for having faith in me.”
The actor emphasized the importance of adapting literary works for the big screen to revive the dwindling Odia film audience. “After working on Pushkara, which was also based on literature, I realized this is the right path. We’ve lost many viewers due to lackluster remakes. Literature-based cinema can bring them back.”
The film’s title, Randi Pua Ananta, has stirred some controversy. However, literary figures present at the event defended it, stating that the title and character come directly from the original text, and changing them would be a disservice to the source material.
Director Sabyasachi Mohapatra acknowledged the difficulties in adapting such a complex story. “It was a tough subject to bring to life on screen, but I’m happy with what we’ve achieved and hope the audience will appreciate the film and the team’s efforts.”
Film critic Surya Deo also commented, noting that Odia cinema has a rich tradition of adapting literature, a trend that has slowed in recent years. “We need to revive this tradition,” he said, praising the new wave of literature-based films.
