Bhubaneswar: The 15-day free Film-based skill courses for ST students by FTII was completed at CUO on Friday.
The event was held through an initiative of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, and as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’
The valedictory session was chaired by Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. N. C. Panda, Registrar, CUO, and Prof. Ajmal Jami, FTII, were the guests of honor. Prof Ashwin B Sonone, Coordinator of the Courses on behalf of FTII, was present virtually.
The programme started with the Vice-Chancellor inaugurating a photo exhibition on ‘Cinema of Odisha’, which was completed by Dr. P. K. Rath, Assistant Professor, DJMC, and Mr. Telaram Meher, Guest Faculty of DJMC. A screening of short films made by ST students during the course followed next. A souvenir of the programme was inaugurated by the dignitaries.
Prof. Sonone, in his virtual deliberation, expressed his satisfaction that the FTII could impart training in a tribal area like Koraput.
Dr. Sourav Gupta, HOD (i/c), DJMC, and overall coordinator of the program, presented the workshop report where he stated that four courses, namely Screen acting, screenplay writing, film appreciation, and Smartphone filmmaking, were held as a part of the event. In all, 38 ST students participated in the courses, out of which 17 were girls and 11 were boys.
Prof. Chakrdhar Tripathi lauded the students for learning the courses with the utmost love and respect. He said that he expects that the tribal students will find expression of their minds not through language but through the technical language of cinema. Prof Tripathi hailed cinema as ‘Pancham Veda’. He said he would approach the FTII to start a regional centre at CUO, Koraput. He also announced a video competition on the ‘The Beauty of CUO campus’.
Prof. N. C. Panda congratulated the Dep’t of J & MC and its faculties, Dr. Nikhil Gouda, Dr. Pradosh Rath, Dr. Sony Parhi, Dr. Talat Jahan Begum, and Mr. Telaram Meher, for coordinating the four courses. Prof Panda stated that such classes will be held again in the CUO.
Prof Ajmal Jami expressed his satisfaction with the keenness of the students of CUO to learn film courses. He and Medhpranav Pawar, Faculty, FTII were felicitated on this occasion.
