Bhubaneswar:  A musical theatre adaptation of the famous literary work Abhimanyu Badh, written by renowned poet Baishnab Pani, will be staged in Rabindra Mandap on March 7.

The production will feature performances by 35 child artists who will act, sing, and provide dubbing for the musical drama.

The young performers are students of Khandagiri Government High School, Jagamara U.P. School, and Baramunda U.P. School. The production is being organised through a collaborative effort between the children’s theatre organisation Kuni Kalakar Karanama, Linkwood Creation, and Face Foundation.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at Khandagiri Government High School on Thursday. Speaking at the event, actress and founder of Kuni Kalakar Karanama, Pinky Pradhan, said that children today are gradually moving away from theatre and musical drama as they spend most of their time on mobile phones.

“Our goal is to inspire children to develop an interest in theatre and preserve the cultural identity of Odisha. That is why we have chosen a powerful story like Abhimanyu Badh,” she said, adding that after its premiere in Bhubaneswar, the musical drama will also be staged in different parts of the state.

The production is being directed by Satyabrati Raja and Rajesh Mallika, while the music direction is handled by Ajay Choudhury. Choreography for the musical play has been done by Pushpanjali Nayak.

Among others present at the press conference were school headmistress Kavita Dandapat and Monali Mohanty along with members of the production team.
