Bhubaneswar: Odia cinema has witnessed a historic moment with the release of Bou Buttu Bhuta, the horror drama starring Babushaan Mohanty, which raked in a staggering ₹51.2 lakhs on its opening day. This marks the highest-ever first-day gross for an Odia film, signaling a new era for the industry.
Celebrating the feat, the makers shared, “History has been rewritten! For the first time ever in Odia cinema, Bou Buttu Bhuta storms the box office with a record-shattering ₹51.2+ lakh gross collection! A horror film, a historic feat – Odisha, you made this possible.”
The film, featuring Babushaan Mohanty, Archita Sahu, and veteran actress Aparajita Mohanty, plunges audiences into the eerie depths of a quiet village gripped by unexplained supernatural events. Aparajita plays a ghost catcher, with Babushaan portraying her son, as the two set out to unravel a terrifying mystery. But what starts as a search for a ghost soon hints at something far more sinister.
Directed by Jagdish Mishra and written by Mohammad Imran, Bou Buttu Bhuta combines chilling horror with deep-rooted family ties, emotional drama, and elements of Odia folklore. Produced by Tripti Satpathy under the banner of Babushaan Films in collaboration with Sidharth Music, the film also features Bunty Anugulia in a significant role.
