Bhubaneswar: Odia film Ananta has achieved another significant milestone by earning an Official Selection at the Swiss International Film Festival (SVIFF) 2026, taking a story rooted in Odisha to the international stage.

The selection has brought pride to Odia cinema, with the film’s team celebrating the recognition as an opportunity to showcase Odisha’s storytelling and cinematic talent beyond geographical boundaries.

Directed by Sabyasachi Mahapatra and Kumar C. Dev, Ananta is based on the timeless story “Randi Pua Ananta” by legendary Odia writer and poet Fakir Mohan Senapati. The film presents a powerful tale of redemption, courage and ultimate sacrifice.
The story follows Ananta, a rebellious and mischievous young man whose life takes a dramatic turn when a devastating flood threatens his village.

In an extraordinary act of courage, he uses his own body to plug a breach in the river embankment and asks the villagers to pile soil over him to stop the floodwaters. Though the village is saved, Ananta loses his life, transforming from a troublemaker into a selfless hero.

Set against the scenic backdrop of rural Odisha, the film remains deeply rooted in Odia culture and literature while presenting a universal story of humanity and sacrifice.
Produced by Naveen Bhandari, Suraj Mahnot and Archita Sahu, the film stars Sabyasachi Mishra in the titular role.

The cast also includes Suryamayee Mahapatra, Kuna Tripathy, Tapas Sargharia and Jyotirmayee Panda, among others.
The music has been composed by Abhijit Majumdar, while Huetsang Mahapatra has handled the cinematography.

Ananta had earlier released in theatres across Odisha on June 12 last year and subsequently reached television audiences. The film is also streaming on AAO NXT.

The latest international recognition comes after the film’s directors won the Best Director award at the INCA Awards, further adding to Ananta’s growing list of achievements.

With its official selection at SVIFF 2026, Ananta is now set to carry the richness of Odia literature and cinema to a wider international audience.
