Grand Mahal Unveils Four New Plays

Bhubaneswar: For the upcoming season, the much-discussed theatrical group *Jatra Grand Mahal* has unveiled four new plays along with the title song of one of them, *Kankala Kanduchhi* (“The Skeleton Weeps”). The unveiling event took place at the Bula Bhai Seva Bhawan located in Master Canteen.

Prominent theatre director Lala Biren Ray, producer Mahtab Babu of *Jatra Swarnamahal*, Bharat Bhushan Deo of *Konark Gananatya*, Biswajit Raj of *Dhauli Gananatya*, Prasannajit Nayak of *Jatra Yajnaseni*, Satya Jena of *Rangmahal*, and *Grand Mahal*’s producer Niranjan Sahu, co-producer Pooja Rani Sahu, and chief director Rajendra Mohanty (Phak Babu) were among the guests who jointly launched the plays.

Also present were playwrights, directors, music directors, and numerous artists from all four plays including Manas Sasmal and Nigam Mishra.

The four new plays, which are expected to stir excitement in the upcoming theatre season, are:

1. *Aakhi Kanduchhi Na Luha Kanduchhi* (“Are the Eyes Crying or the Tears?”)
2. *Swami Sinduraku Bharasa Nahin* (“The Husband Has No Faith in Vermilion”)
3. *Mu Kichi Nuha Tuma Bina* (“I Am Nothing Without You”)
4. *Kankala Kanduchhi* (“The Skeleton Weeps”)

* *Aakhi Kanduchhi Na Luha Kanduchhi* was written by the renowned playwright Nihar Ranjan Mohanty and directed by Sushanta Das.
* *Swami Sinduraku Bharasa Nahin* was written by Jagannath Raut and directed by Subodh Mishra, with music by Bikash Shukla.
* *Mu Kichi Nuha Tuma Bina*, a research-based play, was penned by Ajay Saha, directed by Bulu Bishwal, and features music by Mihir Mohanty.
* *Kankala Kanduchhi*, one of this year’s most talked-about plays, was written by acclaimed playwright Dr. Deepak Jena, directed by Suresh Kumar Nayak, and features music by film composer Baidyanath Das.

The event was coordinated by Manas Sasmal. Co-producer Pooja Rani Sahu stated that these plays—with their unique stories, strong direction, heartfelt performances, and soul-stirring music—are sure to captivate the audience.
