Bhubaneswar: Bell-bottom vibes, big hair, bold make-up and old-school glamour are back on social media, thanks to a viral AI trend that is giving celebrities a stylish trip to the 1980s. Several familiar faces from the Odia entertainment industry have now joined the ChatGPT-generated 80s look trend, flooding social media with their retro avatars.

The trend transforms contemporary photographs into retro-inspired portraits featuring voluminous hairstyles, vintage costumes, dramatic make-up, denim jackets and the unmistakable cinematic glamour associated with the 1980s.

Odia and Bengali actress Rupsha Mukhopadhyay, sharing her retro look, summed up the mood with the caption: “Too GLAM to belong to just one Era.”

Speaking about the trend, Rupsha said, I think it’s such a fun trend. It’s nostalgic, glamorous, and honestly, quite fascinating to see yourself through the lens of another era.”

Actress and producer Jhilik Bhattacharjee also joined the viral wave, writing: “Bringing the ’80s back.”

For actress Lipi Mohapatra, giving in to the popular trend came without any hesitation. Sharing her AI-generated avatar, she wrote: “Finally succumbed to the trend. No regrets.”

The 1980s, with its flamboyant style, larger-than-life hairstyles, colourful costumes and distinctive film aesthetics, has emerged as one of the most popular choices.

For Odia celebrities, the trend is also offering a fun new way to engage with fans and showcase a different side of their personalities. As the retro images continue to draw likes, shares and comments, more stars from the Odia film and television industry are expected to jump on the 80s bandwagon.
For now, it seems the decade of big hair, bold fashion and cinematic glamour has found a new home — on AI-powered social media timelines.
