Title of New Odia Film ‘Jankha’ Announced; Release Planned for New Year 2027

Bhubaneswar: The title of the upcoming Odia film ‘Jankha’ has been officially announced, marking the beginning of an ambitious new project that seeks to explore elements of Jagannath culture, history and the era of Odisha’s erstwhile kingdoms.

The film, to be produced under the banner of Shagun Entertainment, had its title unveiled at a grand event held at a star hotel on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Members of the film’s cast and crew, along with media representatives, attended the title announcement ceremony.

‘Jankha’ is being envisioned as a distinctive project by a new generation of filmmakers. The film is produced by Shubhrajeet Jena, who is also jointly directing the project with Rahul Ray.

Writer Siddharth Gautam has penned the screenplay and dialogues for the film. According to the makers, Gautam spent nearly two years researching the subject before developing the story.

The film’s technical team includes Biswajit Kuldi as the Director of Photography (DOP), while Pranay Jethi of Media Planner is handling the publicity and promotions.
Music for ‘Jankha’ is being composed by Sambit Kumar Mahanti, Mahadev Raut and Mrinmay M.S.

The songs will feature the voices of popular singers Antara Chakraborty, Kuldeep Pattanaik, Satyajit Pradhan, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gaurav Anand and Mrinmay M.S.

The film features a talented ensemble of young and experienced actors, including S.D. Mandal, Partha Sarathi Ray, Bishwarupa Raut, Jagannath Sethi and Umakant, among others.

The title ‘Jankha’ has already generated curiosity among audiences. While some may associate the subject with traditional grandmother’s tales and folklore, others may perceive it as a mythological story. However, the makers say the film will present a deeper and distinctive narrative rooted in Jagannath culture and the historical era of Odisha’s royal kingdoms.
With original and culturally rooted stories increasingly finding a place in Odia cinema, ‘Jankha’ aims to offer audiences a fresh cinematic experience based on extensive research and a unique narrative concept.
The film is expected to go on floors soon and is slated for release during the New Year celebrations in 2027.
