‘Abhisar: A Love Story’ audio launched, Odia film with transgender woman in lead to hit screens in September

Bhubaneswar: The audio of the upcoming Odia film ‘Abhisar: A Love Story’ was launched Friday, with the makers announcing that the film will be released in theatres across Odisha in September.

Produced under the Fusion Entertainment banner, the film is being promoted as a first-of-its-kind project in Indian cinema to feature a transgender woman in the lead role. The production house described the film as a bold attempt to bring an emotionally engaging and socially relevant story to the big screen.

The audio launch was attended by former MLA Sura Routray, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, social worker Manmath Routray, noted writer Gaurahari Das, film producer Sachikanta Jena and actor Meera Parida, among others. Director Ranjit Mohanty, producers Bijay Ketan Mishra and Laxmipriya Mohanty, lead actors Bhumi and Rudra Pratap Mohanty, music director Bibhuti Bhushan Gadnayak, and cinematographer Prasanna Kumar were also present.

The story has been written by Sanghamitra Bhanja, while Ranjit Mohanty has handled the screenplay, dialogues and direction. The film has been shot by Prasanna Kumar, edited by Chandrasekhar Mishra, and scored by Bibhuti Bhushan Gadnayak.

The film stars Bhumi, a transgender woman, in the lead role alongside newcomer Rudra Pratap Mohanty and Meera Parida, with Arya Mohanty and Shivaji Raja in supporting roles.
Speaking at the event, director Ranjit Mohanty said the film presents a story that is different from conventional Odia cinema and explores a sensitive social theme through a fresh narrative.

The makers expressed confidence that the audience across Odisha would embrace the film when it releases in September.
