Vishal Patnaik's Odia feature bags Best Feature Film (Fiction) honour at SCA International Film Festival
Bhubaneswar: In a major boost for Odia cinema, the upcoming feature film ‘Maliput Melodies’ has won the Bronze Award for Best Feature Film – Fiction at the SCA International Film Festival, Los Angeles.
Announcing the achievement on social media, the makers described it as “another milestone” for the film and dedicated the honour to every admirer of Odia cinema. “This honour belongs to every lover of Odia cinema,” the production team said while sharing the news.
The international recognition comes even before the film’s theatrical release, adding to the growing buzz around the project. The film recently received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is slated to hit cinemas on September 18.
Directed by Vishal Patnaik and produced by Kaushik Das, Maliput Melodies is a musical drama that explores love, relationships and the cultural essence of rural Odisha. Named after the picturesque village of Maliput, the film seeks to celebrate the state’s traditions through an emotionally driven narrative.
The screenplay has been penned by Sudhakar Patnaik, while Tosh Nanda has composed the music and written the lyrics. Ram Patnaik and Kaustav Das serve as co-producers under the Kaustav Dreamworks Studios banner.
The Los Angeles honour is expected to further raise the film’s profile ahead of its theatrical release, making Maliput Melodies one of the most anticipated Odia films of the season. With international recognition already under its belt, the makers are optimistic that the film will resonate with audiences both in Odisha and beyond.
