‘KANKANA’ First Look Teaser Unveils Odisha’s Darkest Folklore on the Big Screen

Bhubaneswar: The makers of KANKANA on Tuesday unveiled the film’s much-awaited first look teaser, offering audiences a chilling glimpse into what promises to be an atmospheric horror thriller inspired by Odisha’s darkest folklore and ancient legends.

The teaser comes days after the production team introduced the film’s principal characters through a series of striking first-look posters featuring Supriya Nayak, Ankita Mohanty, Suryamayee Mohapatra and Choudhury Jayaprakash Das in never-seen-before avatars.

Sharing the teaser, the makers wrote: “Some legends are not meant to be spoken. Some fears are older than the land itself. This year, Odisha’s darkest folklore comes alive on screen like never before. Presenting the First Look of KANKANA—where myth meets terror, and the soil remembers what we tried to forget. A story whispered in villages for generations. A curse. A legend. A reckoning. India, brace yourselves—Odisha’s horror has arrived.”

Directed by Prithvi Raj Pattnaik and written by Amit Kumar Dash, KANKANA is slated for a theatrical release on September 18, 2026.
The film is produced by Deepak Mahapatra and Bhabani Shankar Subudhi under the banner of DB Motion Picturez, marking the production house’s maiden venture in the Odia film industry.

The makers had earlier built anticipation by teasing only the initials of the film’s title before officially unveiling KANKANA along with the character posters. The newly released teaser now offers the first cinematic glimpse into the film’s eerie world, setting the stage for what is expected to be a visually rich blend of mythology, folklore and supernatural horror.

Known for films such as Gupchup (2022), Malyagiri (2023) and BHAI: The Opening Part (2025), director Prithvi Raj Pattnaik ventures into the horror genre with KANKANA, aiming to bring Odisha’s haunting folklore to the big screen in a fresh and immersive way.
