‘Landfall’ Wraps Shooting, Sets Stage for a Landmark Chapter in Odia Cinema
Directors Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka thank cast and crew after completing Odisha's ambitious ₹10-crore film starring Sabyasachi Mishra
Bhubaneswar: The cameras have finally stopped rolling on Landfall, one of the most ambitious and expensive films ever produced in Odia cinema. After months of intensive filming and nearly three years of meticulous planning, directors Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka have announced the completion of the film’s principal photography, marking a significant milestone for the project that seeks to showcase Odisha’s resilience on a grand cinematic canvas.
Announcing the wrap-up, the directors expressed heartfelt gratitude to every member of the cast and crew for their unwavering commitment and perseverance throughout the shoot.
“Shooting during the peak summer heat was never easy, but the relentless spirit of every cast and crew member made this journey possible. Your resilience, hard work and dedication helped turn an ambitious dream into reality,” the directors said.
They paid special tribute to cinematographer Pratap Rout, praising his passion and relentless energy behind the camera, which they said played a crucial role in shaping the film’s visual identity.
The directors also acknowledged the unwavering support of producer Prabhat Kumar Pradhan, saying his belief in the project never faltered despite the scale and challenges involved.
“Our heartfelt thanks to producer Prabhat Kumar Pradhan. His faith, determination and constant encouragement transformed a challenging dream into a completed film. None of this would have been possible without his unwavering support,” they said.
Special appreciation was reserved for lead actor Sabyasachi Mishra, who headlines the film alongside Divyasnata Mohanty.
“Your sincerity, discipline and complete belief in this film were evident every single day of the shoot. It has been a privilege to have you on this journey,” the directors said, adding that the actor’s dedication significantly strengthened the project.
Expressing optimism about the film’s future, Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka said they are confident that Landfall will make Odisha proud on both national and international platforms.
“We are confident that Landfall will bring pride and glory to Odisha on the national as well as the international stage. Whatever recognition this film receives will belong to every person who stood beside us in creating this dream. This achievement belongs to the entire team,” they said
The completion of shooting marks the culmination of an extraordinary journey that began after the phenomenal success of the National Award-winning Daman. Following that achievement, Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka spent nearly three years developing Landfall, focusing on script development, extensive research, large-scale production design and the integration of advanced animation and visual effects.
Mounted on a reported budget of around ₹10 crore, Landfall is considered one of the costliest films ever made in Odisha. The makers are producing the film simultaneously in Odia and Hindi, with the aim of taking an Odia story to audiences across India and beyond.
Earlier this year, the film’s title, logo and first-look poster were unveiled at a grand event in Bhubaneswar, generating considerable excitement among cinema lovers and the industry.
Beyond its scale, Landfall is deeply rooted in Odisha’s history and lived experiences. Inspired by the devastating cyclones that have repeatedly battered the state over the decades, the film explores themes of loss, resilience, courage and hope. Through emotionally driven storytelling, large-scale visuals and cutting-edge visual effects, the filmmakers hope to present a story that resonates with audiences while celebrating the indomitable spirit of Odisha.
The film brings together an accomplished technical team, including producer Prabhat Kumar Pradhan, cinematographer Pratap Rout, art director Ajay Sutar, and set designers Vijay and Hari Pokal, all working to create a cinematic experience on a scale rarely attempted in regional cinema.
Sabyasachi Mishra, who was last seen in Ananta, takes on the lead role in Landfall, while Divyasnata Mohanty stars opposite him. Meanwhile, Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka, who recently ventured into film production with the release of Murabi, continue to expand their creative vision with what is expected to be their most ambitious directorial project to date.
With principal photography now complete, Landfall moves into an extensive post-production phase involving editing, sound design, background score and visual effects. As anticipation builds, the makers believe the film has the potential to become a landmark in Odia cinema, carrying Odisha’s stories, emotions and resilience to audiences on both the national and international stage.
