Bhubaneswar: The newly released Odia film KANGULA – Maa Kali Ra Danda Nacha, which hit cinema halls across the state on April 24, has collected Rs 8.57 lakh on its first day, according to the makers. The opening-day figure has given the film a positive start at the box office and generated fresh buzz among audiences.
Directed by Aswin Tripathy, Kangula is inspired by Odisha’s sacred Danda Nacha tradition and blends devotion, mystery, sacrifice and divine power. The film is rooted in the cultural soil of Odisha and revolves around the fierce spiritual energy of Maa Kali.
The movie stars Sambeet Acharya in the lead role, along with Suryamayee Mohapatra, Abhishek Giri, and Sritam Das in key roles. Actress Payal Routray also appears in a special song sequence that gained attention during the promotional campaign.
Produced by Suvendra Kumar Malla (Litu) and Sambeet Acharya, the film had built momentum ahead of release through its trailer and songs such as “Anugul Ra Tukuli” and “To Pari Haba Kie,” both of which received strong online response.
With a culturally rooted storyline and devotional backdrop, Kangula has drawn interest from audiences looking for a different cinematic experience. The makers are hopeful that positive word of mouth will help the film sustain momentum in the coming days.
