YouTuber Tapi Mishra Arrested for Alleged Plagiarism of Lyrics from Banasmita Pati’s ‘Siba Tandav’

Bhubaneswar: Saroj Kumar Mishra, a 43-year-old YouTuber, also known as Tapi Mishra, was arrested by the Infocity police for allegedly plagiarizing lyrics from a book titled Siba Tandav by female author Banasmita Pati.

The controversy began when Mishra used lyrics from the book without permission and published them on his YouTube channel. Upon discovering this, Banasmita filed a complaint on February 17.

Mishra responded to the accusation by making slanderous and obscene remarks about Banasmita during a press briefing, which further aggravated the situation. Banasmita revealed that she had previously considered casting Mishra in a movie adaptation of her book, but the plan fell through due to personal disagreements. As a result, she moved forward with the project without him.

The police have charged Mishra under multiple sections of the IPC, including those related to defamation and indecent remarks. He was produced in court on Wednesday for remand.
