Title of New Odia Film ‘Mehermunda’ Announced by GR Records
New Odia Film "Mehermunda" to Shed Light on the Lives of Handloom Weavers
Bhubaneswar: GR Records has officially announced the title of its upcoming Odia film, “Mehermunda”, at a special launch event.
The film will spotlight the heartfelt story of Odisha’s traditional handloom saree weavers, who, despite their dedication and artistry, often remain unrecognized and undercompensated.
“Mehermunda” will feature Jyoti Ranjan Nayak and Arlin Ankita in the lead roles, with Rakesh Padhi, Susanta Dasmohapatra, and Santu Nije playing key supporting characters.
The film is being directed by Nikunj Hota and produced by Rakesh Kumar Padhi and Gyanranjan Behera. Music for the movie will be composed by Amit Yuvraaj and Chandraniv Saha.
The story sheds light on the age-old weaving traditions of Odisha, focusing on the emotional and economic struggles of handloom artisans who continue to create exquisite sarees by hand but remain unrewarded.
Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, last seen in Rangashoor—which released on January 12 and recently earned a spot at the New York Indian Film Festival—takes on a powerful role in this socially driven narrative. Arlin Ankita was most recently seen in the Odia film Sanatani opposite Sambeet Acharya.
Shooting for *Mehermunda* is set to begin soon.
