Bhubaneswar: Actress Priyambada Swain, who made her acting debut with Delivery Boy, is steadily making a mark in Odia cinema with her choice of roles and performances. Her latest release, Jadi, has brought her considerable appreciation from audiences, with her portrayal of the character Jhili emerging as one of the talking points of the film.

Directed by Dibyajyoti Uday singh, Jadi also stars Sailendra Samantaray and Akash Hota in prominent roles.

Speaking to Odia Celebrity, Priyambada said she is delighted with the response to her character.

“I am very happy that the audience is giving so much love to the character. I played Jhili, who is a very emotional person and does everything with emotion. It was an interesting character for me to portray.”

For Priyambada, Jadi also provided an opportunity to work again with actor Sailendra, with whom she had previously shared the screen in Delivery Boy and Delivery Boy 2. She says their familiarity helped create a comfortable working environment.

“I feel very comfortable working with Sailendra. We have worked together before, and we have had many discussions about our characters and scenes. That understanding makes the experience of working together easier and more enjoyable,” she said.

A Strong Foundation in Theatre and Acting

With three films to her credit so far, Priyambada believes her formal training has played an important role in shaping her approach to acting. A graduate of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, she entered the film industry with the ambition of playing meaningful and diverse characters.

“I came into the industry with the hope of doing good roles. Being a trained actor has helped me understand every character better and approach each role with greater clarity. I want to continue learning and doing better work,” she said.

Interestingly, Priyambada says she has never been obsessed with a particular “dream role.” Instead, she prefers to remain open to different kinds of characters.

“I have never really thought about doing one particular dream role. I am happy to play all kinds of characters. For me, every character is an opportunity to learn something new,” she said.

Theatre Remains Her First Love

Despite her growing presence in films, theatre continues to hold a special place in Priyambada’s heart. She considers the stage her first love and makes an effort to return to theatre whenever her schedule allows.
“Theatre will always be my first love. Whenever I get time, I try to act in theatre with my group. The stage gives me a different kind of experience, and I always enjoy being there,” she said.

Her theatre background, she believes, continues to influence her work in front of the camera, giving her an opportunity to explore characters more deeply and strengthen her craft.

More Projects on the Way

While Priyambada remained tight-lipped about her upcoming projects, she confirmed that she has a few projects in the pipeline.
“There are some projects that I am doing, but I cannot disclose much about them at this point,” she said.

Priyambada as Jhili

With Jadi receiving encouraging audience feedback, Priyambada appears to be entering an interesting phase of her career. With formal training, a continuing connection with theatre and an openness to varied characters, the actress seems determined to build her journey one role at a time.
