‘Ponniyin Selvan’ makers announce Mani Ratnam’s directorial as the highest grosser of 2023

The historic epic drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ was adapted from the novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film was released in two parts. The sequel to the film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ was released in theatres on April 28, 2023. The film, in 14 days, has reportedly made more than Rs 350 crore at the box office. Taking to social media, the movie makers announced on May 12 that ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is the highest grosser of 2023.

The movie features Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhitha Dhulipala, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Prabhu, among others. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is scheduled to make its digital premiere in June’s second week on the OTT platform.

The first part of the film, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1,” was released in theatres on September 30, 2022. The film was a blockbuster, and it made more than Rs 500 crore at the box office.
