Bhubaneswar, July 2: Governor of Odisha Raghubar Das on Tuesday praised the widely circulated monthly magazine Kadambini for enriching the Odia language which has a rich history among the Indian classical languages.
Speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Kadambini as the Chief Guest, the Governor reflected upon the Odia language, saying it is an exquisite repository of cultural expression and sentiment. He praised Kadambini for honouring senior writers and encouraging new ones, describing this as a commendable effort. Kadambini has made significant contributions to the promotion and dissemination of the Odia language and literature. He noted that the magazine’s popularity stems from publishing articles that resonate with every family member.
In his welcome address, the Founder of Kadambini and Kunikatha Dr. Achyuta Samanta stated that in the 25 years of its existence, Kadambini has never published any content that received criticism. From its inception, he advised the editor, Dr. Iti Samanta, to avoid using negative words, a guideline she has adhered to meticulously.
He lauded Kadambini’s efforts to promote Odia language, literature, culture, and tradition within and outside Odisha. He also announced that various programmes would be held throughout the year in different districts of Odisha to celebrate Kadambini’s silver jubilee. Besides, 25 young writers from various districts will be awarded fellowships for research on Odia language, literature, and culture.
Guest of honour, distinguished playwright Ananta Mahapatra stated that dedication and confidence lead to success, citing Kadambini as an example. Presiding over the event, veteran journalist Pradosh Patnaik remarked that it is impossible to adequately measure the success of Kadambini over its 25-year journey. He said that Kadambini has created a new history and identity by paying homage to the seniors and encouraging the juniors. Editor Dr. Iti Samanta expressed her gratitude.
During the occasion, the guests released the Kadambini silver jubilee commemorative postal stamp issued by the Indian Postal Department, the silver jubilee edition of Kadambini, and the July edition of Kunikatha. A well-wisher of Kadambini and eminent journalist Umapada Bose was honored by the Governor on the occasion.
Throughout the day, various discussions were held on different subjects. Eminent personalities like Professor Sabita Pradhan, Vice-Chancellor of Odia University and Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, renowned author Archana Nayak, noted film director Himanshu Shekhar Khatua, distinguished researcher Parameswar Mund, renowned musician Laxmikant Palit, celebrated dance guru Snehaprabha Samantaray, famous actress and director Aimee Baruah, Bollywood actress Meera Chopra, Bollywood actor Abhay Verma, sportsperson Anuradha Biswal, karateka Valina Valentina, popular actor Sabyasachi Mishra, and acclaimed chef Smrutishree Singh participated in various sessions.
Cultural programmes were presented by KISS students of Anandapur Binapani Kala Niketan, Guru Ranjan Kumar Sahu and team, Guru Dhaneshwar Swain and team, and Akshay Mahanty. The inauguration festivities began with a theme song of Kadambini sung by vocalists Antara Chakrabarty and Swayam Padhi.
