Bhubaneswar: Aswin Tripathy’s critically acclaimed Odia film Sita has bagged the Best Social Film Award at the Ideal International Film Festival held in Sillod, Maharashtra. The award was received by the film’s director, Aswin Tripathy, in recognition of the movie’s powerful portrayal of rural hardships and social issues.

Released in July last year, Sita was both a box office success and a critical favorite. The film stars Debjani Deghuria in the titular role and delivers a compelling narrative centered on the emotional struggles and resilience of farmers. It highlights pressing issues such as agricultural debt, natural calamities, and social injustice, making it both relevant and thought-provoking.

In Sita, a farmer’s daughter rises as a symbol of strength and determination, fighting for justice in the face of adversity. Debjani’s performance has been lauded for its emotional depth and inspiring portrayal.

The film also features strong performances by Samaresh Routray, Late Pintu Nanda, Sushant Das Mohapatra, and Shakti Baral. It is presented by Aswin Tripathy Films in association with Idol Odisha.

Interestingly, the film was initially titled Udandi Sita and reportedly faced hurdles in securing a release due to disapproval from the previous state government. However, with the change in administration, the film finally saw the light of day, earning both public and critical acclaim.

Sita continues to garner appreciation for shedding light on the struggles of India’s rural communities, marking an important contribution to socially conscious cinema in the Odia film industry.
