Bhubaneswar: The new Odia film Kanda Mastre was released in cinema halls on Friday, bringing a unique cultural narrative to the big screen.

A special premiere of the movie was held at Utkal Kanika Galleria in Bhubaneswar, drawing film enthusiasts and members of the Odia film fraternity.

Directed and produced by Biswajit Panda, the film is inspired by the traditional “Kandana” ritual—an emotional wedding custom in which brides expressed their feelings through poetic wailing during the bidayi ceremony. Once an integral part of Odia wedding traditions, the ritual gradually faded away after the 1990s.

Through Kanda Mastre, the filmmakers attempt to revisit and preserve this disappearing cultural expression while presenting it through a contemporary cinematic lens.

The trailer hints at an emotionally powerful storyline that blends nostalgia with social commentary. It explores the delicate balance between tradition and modernity while portraying the emotional struggles and resilience of women at a pivotal moment in their lives. Striking visuals, intense performances, and heartfelt dialogues indicate that the film aims to leave a strong emotional impact on audiences.

The film features Bibhu Prasad, Lipsa Mishra, Pruthvi Raj Nayak, Swetashree Padhy, Dharitri Khandual and Sara Apa in prominent roles. Lipsa Mishra also serves as the associate producer of the project.
The story and dialogues have been written by Zakir Khan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Biswajit Panda. The film has been produced under the banner of Biswajit Itishree Cinema, while the music rights have been acquired by Amara Muzik.

The background score, as reflected in the trailer, blends folk musical elements with contemporary sounds, adding emotional depth to the narrative.

With its culturally rooted theme and emotionally resonant storyline, Kanda Mastre is expected to offer audiences a meaningful and nostalgic cinematic experience.
