Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to revitalize the Odia film industry, a stakeholders meeting was held today at Sanskruti Bhavan, organized by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department. The session focused on the all-round development of Odia cinema, from policy reforms to infrastructural upgrades.
Presided over by acclaimed actor and Digapahandi MLA Sidhanta Mohapatra, the meeting brought together leading voices from the film fraternity—including producers, directors, actors, writers, and musicians—who discussed actionable strategies for strengthening the industry.
Key proposals included regular and timely Odisha State Film Awards with expanded categories and increased cash prizes, selection of youth-inclusive juries, and the launch of a dedicated website showcasing award-winning films and artists.
Participants also emphasized the need for a new film policy, government subsidies for production, strengthening the Odisha Film Development Corporation, and modernizing Kalinga Studio. Other suggestions included building more cinema halls, reducing ticket prices, archiving Odia films, and promoting OTT and digital platforms.
There was strong advocacy for supporting films based on authentic Odia stories and empowering film professionals across the ecosystem.
Notable attendees included actors Shri Arindam Roy, Shri Sabyasachi Mishra, Smt. Archita Sahu, Anu Choudhury, musician Shri Debasish Mahapatra, former Doordarshan director Smt. Deepti Mishra, and senior officials from the Culture Department.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to promote Odia cinema as both a cultural treasure and a dynamic entertainment medium.
