Bhubaneswar: The Odia film “Chaarikaandha”, produced under the banner of Ritupriya Productions, has been released on the big screen, with its premiere show held at PVR Cinemas Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The 37-minute film moved the audience to tears, with many viewers becoming emotional while watching the powerful story unfold.
The film highlights a sensitive social reality of modern times — the loneliness of old age and the harsh situation where even finding four people to carry a dead body to the cremation ground becomes difficult.
Producer Atish Kumar Raut attempted to present this simple yet deeply touching story to Odia audiences through the big screen. During the premiere, several viewers were seen with tears in their eyes, reflecting the emotional impact of the film.
The premiere show was attended by producer Atish Kumar Raut, director Biswanath Rath, creative publicity designer Shyama Prasad Mishra, and actors Shakti Baral, Satabdi Suryasnata, Susil Mishra, Gourab Mohanty, Shivani Khara, Pravanjan Mishra, Riddhi Parida, Suruchika Mohapatra, Namita Sahoo, Nityananda Rout, Raj S. Padhi, Soumya Ranjan Nayak, Sanskriti Swain, S. Rajendra, Soumya R. Sarangi, editor Veer Kumar Nanda, music director and singer Amit Yuvraaj, sync sound engineer Dileswar Panda, media planner Pranay Jethi, along with film lovers and critics.
Despite being only 37 minutes long, Charikandha has already participated in more than 46 national and international film festivals and has won over 22 awards. The film was also screened at the Hokkaido International Film Festival, where it was selected in the mid-length film category.
Among only eight films chosen in this category, Chaarikaandha was the sole entry from India and received recognition, making it a proud moment for Odia cinema.
The film, produced by Atish Kumar Raut under Ritupriya Productions, portrays the realities of contemporary society and the loneliness of ageing. The story, screenplay, and direction have been handled by Biswanath Rath, while Supriya Rout and Akhil Rajurkar served as co-producers.
