Bhubaneswar: Odia horror-comedy Mantra Muugdha has made an impressive start at the box office, collecting ₹21.51 lakh on its opening day after releasing across Odisha on May 1.
Described by the makers as a “thunderous opening,” the Day 1 figures signal a positive response from audiences and mark a promising beginning for what is being promoted as Odisha’s first full-fledged horror-comedy entertainer.
The film, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Anupam Pattnaik, opened in more than 50 cinema halls across the state, with additional screenings in cities like Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, expanding its reach beyond Odisha.
Featuring a young ensemble cast including Sarthak, Sanoj, Manmay and Suryamayee , Bhoomika, the film has been promoted as a fresh and energetic cinematic experience.
Produced under the banner of Amiya Pattnaik Productions, Mantra Muugdha had generated strong pre-release buzz.
Its trailer crossed one million views on YouTube, while promotional content, including the energetic song Daba Bhitare Pas featuring Papu Pom Pom, gained popularity among fans.
The film also received a U/A certificate ahead of release, making it suitable for family audiences. Adding to its visibility, actor Abhishek Banerjee—known for his role in Stree—shared the film’s trailer, further boosting its reach.
Mantra Muugdha follows a group of friends who visit a mysterious palace and soon encounter eerie and supernatural events. Blending horror, comedy, suspense and music, the film is being positioned as a complete entertainer.
With a strong opening day collection, industry watchers will now be keenly observing how the film performs over the weekend, as positive word-of-mouth could further boost its box office run.
