Jayanta Mahapatra remembered by his fans

Cuttack: Late Poet and author Jayanta Mahapatra who passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 94. Was paid tribute by his admirers and fans and People from all walks of life during an event titled ‘To Sir with Love’ hosted by Cuttack Heritage Walks (CHW) and the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) recently.
On the occasion an audio message from veteran lyricist Gulzar was played at the event.
Attending the event titled Orissa High Court judge Shashikanta Mishra recalled a few memorable moments he spent with the acclaimed poet.
Stating of his half-decade-long association with the poet, Professor Chinmay Jena said, “He was not just a luminary of Indian English poetry; Mahapatra led a simple life and was pure-hearted like a child.”
Jnanee Debashis Mishra, a lecturer, examined Jayanta’s literary works, while poet Sangram Jena recited a poem about Mahapatra written by Japanese poet Kajuko Siraecy.
Among others who read other poems by the celebrated poet were Gayatribala Panda, Suresh Nayak, Rabindra Kumar Swain, Prasanna Swain, Sarita Samal, Kedar Mishra, Ashok Pattnaik, Basudev Sunai, Goparanjan Mishra, and Jayant Das. Publisher Manu Das read out two letters addressed to Mahapatra.
