Iconic Odia film ‘Ulka’ screened again after 43 years

Bhubaneswar: The Film Journalists’ Forum organized a screening of Ulka, an iconic Odia film which was released against after 43 years, here at Jayadev Bhawan on Friday.

At this special screening several artist of the Odia film industry such as Sabyasachi Mohapatra, Tutu Nayak, Partha Sarathi Ray, Sukanta Rath, Harihar Mohapatra, Hara Rath, and Debajani Deghuria and others were present.

Presented by Rajlaxmi Production, Ulka was jointly directed by Raju Mishra and Surya Mishra. The movie had Mahashweta Roy, Gloria Mohanty, Byomokesh Tripathy, and Radha Panda in key roles.

The songs of the movie Abhimanee Amaniya Dehu, Maa Tuma Mamatara Sima Hina Sagara, Ei Mane Sete Phula Ohute and others are still remembered by audiences.

The songs were sung by Bollywood evergreen singers such as Bhupinder Singh, Suresh Wadkar, Aarti Mukherjee. Music is composed by Raju Mishra.

It is to be noted that Film Journalist’s Forum organises ‘Smruti Chhaya’ under which old Odia movies of the golden era of Odia films are screened. So far the organisation has screened a number of such precious movies which are surely treasures. Importantly, these films are hardly available anywhere else in today’s time.

Earlier classics like ‘Sansaar’, ‘Shri Lokanath’, ‘Sadhana’, and ‘Nuabau’ were screened under ‘Smruti Chhaya’ series.
