GR Records Unveils First Look of “Mehermunda” – A Heartfelt Tribute to Odisha’s Handloom Weavers

Bhubaneswar: GR Records has officially released the first look of its upcoming Odia film Mehermunda, a socially poignant tale that dives deep into the lives of Odisha’s traditional handloom saree weavers. The film promises to offer an emotional and visually rich narrative centered on artisans who have upheld Odisha’s cultural identity through generations, yet continue to live in the shadows of neglect and underappreciation.

Starring popular actor Jyoti Ranjan Nayak and rising talent Arlin Ankita in lead roles, Mehermunda is helmed by director Nikunj Hota. The film also features Rakesh Padhi, Susanta Dasmohapatra, and Santu Nije in pivotal supporting roles. The project is being jointly produced by Rakesh Kumar Padhi and Gyanranjan Behera, with music composed by Amit Yuvraaj and Chandraniv Saha.

The story of Mehermunda sheds light on the emotional struggles and economic hardships faced by weavers who pour their lives into creating handwoven sarees—pieces of art that represent Odisha’s heritage—yet receive little recognition or reward.

Speaking on the occasion of the first look reveal, the makers expressed their hope that Mehermunda will not only entertain but also ignite conversations about preserving and respecting traditional crafts and the communities behind them.
