‘Dahaan’ Teaser Unleashes a New Era of Odia Horror
Anupam Patnaik's upcoming Odia horror film offers a chilling first look, promising an immersive big-screen experience this Ganesh Puja
Bhubaneswar: The makers of Dahaan – The Evil Within have officially released the teaser of the much-awaited Odia horror film, offering audiences a spine-chilling glimpse into a world of darkness, mystery and supernatural terror.
Scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on September 11, 2026, during Ganesh Puja, the film has been crafted exclusively for the cinematic experience.
Launching the teaser, the makers invited audiences into a terrifying world with the message: “Every whisper hides a secret. Every shadow breathes evil. Every scream tells a story. Step into a world where darkness has a face, fear has no escape, and evil never lets go.” They urged viewers to watch the teaser “if you dare,” setting the tone for what promises to be one of the most ambitious horror films in Odia cinema.
The teaser introduces the film’s eerie atmosphere through haunting visuals and suspenseful storytelling, hinting at a supernatural narrative rooted in fear and psychological tension. Amara Muzik has come on board as the official music label for the film.
Written and directed by Anupam Patnaik, Dahaan – The Evil Within is jointly produced by Barsha Patnaik and Anupam Patnaik. The film stars Barsha Patnaik in the lead alongside Aurosikha Mishra, Samrat Mohapatra, Partha Sarathi Ray, Choudhury JayPrakash Das, Nishant Majithia, Pranab Prasanna Rath, Navya Jaiti, Prasanjeet Mohapatra, Mohan Majithia, Debadutta Nanda and Amitabh Patra.
Dahaan marks Anupam Patnaik’s return to full-fledged horror after entertaining audiences with the horror-comedy Mantra Muugdha. A lifelong admirer of the genre, the filmmaker has previously described the project as his dream venture, inspired by his childhood love for horror films and years of preparation to bring a technically rich horror experience to Odia cinema.
The film has also attracted attention for becoming the first feature to be shot at the historic Killa Dalijoda, a nearly century-old former royal hunting lodge in Odisha. The cast and crew spent over a month filming at the heritage palace, whose imposing architecture is expected to add authenticity and an unsettling atmosphere to the supernatural thriller.
Backed by music from Ashish Pradhan, cinematography by Deepak Kumar, editing by Rashmi Ranjan Dash and sound design by Shakti Swaroop Dwibedy, Dahaan – The Evil Within promises an immersive theatrical experience that blends atmospheric horror with emotionally driven storytelling. With the teaser now out, anticipation is building for its worldwide theatrical release on September 11.
