Bhubaneswar: Open your doors to a vibrant celebration of art, craft, and community pride! The Belgadia Palace and Bhubaneswar Experimental Art and Design Studio (BEADS) opened here at the Press Club of Odisha.
This residency offers exceptional opportunities for contemporary artists to nurture their creativity, expand their artistic vision, and foster meaningful collaborations.
“We have immersed ourselves in the vibrant art and craft scene of Odisha, forging connections with local artisans and exploring the region’s exquisite craft clusters, starting with Sabai Grass for 2023-24. As we embark on this unique initiative, we proudly introduce Rohit Kale, our artist-inresidence,” said Julius Das, the curator of the residency program.
With a research-based contemporary fine arts background and an MFA from Nottingham Trent University, Rohit brings a fresh perspective to the program. Embracing the cultural nuances and traditions of the land, Rohit has developed an artistic response that seamlessly integrates craft practices, resulting in inclusive and thought-provoking works of art.
The partnership between the Belgadia Palace, its philanthropy wing, the Mayurbhanj Foundation, and BEADS signifies our collective commitment to sustainability, arts, and culture, Das said.
Das further said, “Our goal is to regenerate creative processes, explore new ideas, and foster collaborations. We firmly believe that craft clusters hold immense potential to inspire future ventures. By bringing together artists, artisans, designers, and researchers from different geographic and historical backgrounds, we aim to create accessible spaces where art, craft, design, and research intersect. Our mission is to ignite creativity, celebrate diversity, and unlock new possibilities.”
The Mayurbhanj Foundation has long been dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of the Belgadia Palace and supporting various artistic endeavours. Meanwhile, BEADS, a design studio based in Bhubaneswar, is renowned for its elegant, ethnically inspired, and environmentally friendly creations.
