Babushaan Mohanty Fulfills Final Rituals for Late Father at Puri Sea Beach

Puri: Under the overcast skies of Puri and the rhythmic crashing of waves at the shore, actor Babushaan Mohanty performed the Asthi Visarjan and Mundan rituals in memory of his late father, veteran Odia film icon Uttam Mohanty. The rites, carried out three months after Uttam Mohanty’s passing, marked a deeply emotional moment for the actor and his family.

Accompanied by his mother Aparajita, wife Trupti, and close relatives, Babushaan carried out the rituals at Sagar Bije Ghat, near the sacred Swargadwar. The delay in the traditional rituals was due to Babushaan’s professional commitments.

“My father always believed in putting responsibility above all. He taught me that when you’re on a film set, you’re responsible for many lives,” the actor shared with reporters, his voice steady but somber.

Uttam Mohanty passed away on February 27 at a private hospital in Gurugram. Despite the profound personal loss, Babushaan continued shooting for a film, honoring what he described as his father’s core values—dedication and discipline.

Though he usually visits the Jagannath Temple in Puri after every project, this time tradition kept him away. “As I’m not permitted to enter the temple for a year following my father’s demise, I requested my *mamu* to offer a *bana* (flag) to Lord Jagannath on my behalf,” he said, expressing both reverence and restraint.

As the ashes merged with the sea, Babushaan said he felt a sense of calm he hadn’t known in weeks. “This was my father’s final journey. Now, I feel at peace,” he said quietly, before walking away from the shoreline.
