Versatile and talented actor and producer Samaresh Routray doesn’t need any introduction. He had done various roles, ranging from lead roles to villainous to character roles. His career spans more than a decade in Odia cinema.
He played iconic roles in movies, including Dhauli Express, Namard, Mukhyamantri, Most Wanted, Luchakali, Loafer, Trishna, and Niati.
During the initial days of his life, he worked on the small screen with popular Odia television serials like Uttardayee, Sanskaar, Khara Barsara Khela, Basundhara, and Debi.
He is ready with his new movie Pratisodh, which will be released in cinema halls across the state on September 25. The Zee Sarthak Films’ production Pratisaodh is a revenge drama starring Elina Samantaray and Samaresh Routray. The story revolves around Elina, who is on a mission to avenge her father’s death.
Talking to Odia Celebrity, Samaresh said that his role in the new movie Pratisodh involved playing a complex character who supports Elina in getting revenge for the injustice she suffered. However, there is a twist that will shock the audience. The actor said when he got the role, he observed that this character had a lot of potential and shades.
Talking about his journey in the industry, Samaresh said, “As an actor, I get the opportunity to play so many characters, which was a very enriching experience and helped me in becoming a good actor, but as a part of the industry. I can say that the Odia industry hasn’t seen that much growth till now. There are a lot of things that need to be done for the growth of the industry,”
He also added, “The number of cinema halls must be increased, especially in small districts of the state. Also, cinema halls and theaters in the state must give equal opportunity to Odia movies to screen as many shows as possible. If Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan can do crores of business in Odisha, then why not our movies.”
Routray has established a music company named Odiaone Entertainment and a film production house named S3 Movies. He became a producer with the Luchakali film in 2012 and produced several good movies and web series, such as Raban Podi. He said, “As a producer, I always wanted to tell new and original stories if I produced it. I avoid any remakes but try to show the story of Odisha.”
About trying to do a variety of roles rather than just one-dimensional roles, he said, “As an actor, you should be prepared to do any types of roles because then you can connect with the audience strongly. The Odia industry lost many talented actors, such as Mihir Das Bijay Mohanty, who was well-known for various characters and the audience loved them for that.
He recently helped the Korean pop band Blackswan to make their music video Karma, released in May 2023. This music video was shot in Bhubaneswar. Odisha’s Sriya Lenka is a part of the K-pop group Blackswan.
His next project is Jhilik Motion Pictures Dear Purusha, which is scheduled to be released in Dussehra, where he is playing a travel agent character named Samaresh opposite Pinky Pradhan.
He said,” I have worked with both Pinky and Jhilik earlier. Dear Purusha is produced by Jhilik, who is also acting in it. She had taken care of us very well during the shooting. Pinky is a fantastic artist and a good friend of mine, so working with her is fun on the set.
