Odia classic brings Fakir Mohan Senapati’s timeless tale of sacrifice to television audiences
Bhubaneswar: After winning hearts in theatres across Odisha since its June 12 release, Ananta—the critically acclaimed Odia film directed by Sabyasachi Mahapatra and Kumar C. Dev—will now reach homes across the state as it premieres on Zee Sarthak, Odisha’s No.1 entertainment channel, on October 26.
Based on the immortal story “Randi Pua Ananta” by legendary writer and poet Fakir Mohan Senapati, Ananta is a powerful narrative of redemption, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. The film traces the transformation of a mischievous young man, Ananta, who shocks his entire village when, during a devastating flood, he sacrifices himself to save others—using his body to block a breach in the embankment and halt the surging waters. His act of heroism turns a troublemaker into a timeless symbol of selflessness and courage.
Set against Odisha’s scenic rural backdrop, the film stays deeply rooted in Odia culture and storytelling traditions. It has received overwhelming love from audiences for its emotional depth, realistic portrayal, and powerful performances.
Produced by Naveen Bhandari, Suraj Mahnot, and Archita Sahu, Ananta features Sabyasachi Mishra in the titular role. His nuanced portrayal of Ananta has been widely praised for capturing the character’s complex journey from rebellion to sacrifice. The film also stars Surjyamayi Mahapatra, Kuna Tripathy, Tapas Sargharia, and Jyotirmayee Panda, among others.
The film’s soul-stirring music is composed by Abhijit Majumdar, with captivating cinematography by Huetsang Mahapatra.
With its timeless message of humanity and selflessness, Ananta is not just a cinematic experience but a poignant social reflection—bringing to life one of Odia literature’s most powerful character arcs. Its television premiere on Zee Sarthak promises to give audiences across Odisha an inspiring story to cherish during the festive season of Raja.
Director Sabyasachi Mahapatra, known for masterpieces such as Sala Budha, Adima Bichara, Bhukha, Pahadara Luha, and Jhili, once again delivers a film that blends art, emotion, and social message seamlessly.
