Bhubaneswar: Odia film Game Over, starring Ardhendu Sahu, will be re-released in the last week of December following an initial release affected by limited theatre availability and a delay in obtaining its censor certificate, the production team announced at a press conference.
Ardhendu said the film was originally scheduled to hit theatres across Odisha on October 16 to capitalise on the festive Dussehra market. However, a delay in receiving the censor certificate pushed the release to October 18.
Addressing the press conference, Ardhendu said the limited number of cinema halls in Odisha had posed challenges for the film’s release. As he had already promised audiences that they would get an opportunity to watch the film on the big screen, the team decided to release it in a single theatre for one week.
During this limited theatrical run, several actors and technicians associated with the film, film critics, family friends and media representatives watched it and reportedly appreciated the film.
Taking into account the audience response and their emotional connect with the film, the team has decided to bring Game Over back to theatres in December, Ardhendu said.
Pranay Jethi, head of publicity for the production house, said the film would undergo the censor certification process again before its re-release in the last week of December.
Ardhendu has regularly attempted to entertain Odia audiences with his films during major festive occasions such as Raja and Dussehra.
Several members of the film fraternity attended the press conference, including Kuna Tripathy, Mahasweta Ray, Jeevan Panda, Bibhas, actress Supriya Nayak, Somesh Mohanty and Akash, besides Ardhendu.
The production team hopes the December re-release will give more audiences an opportunity to watch the film on the big screen.
